Today I felt that this is a time when I need to work hard. Although there aren't many people living intensely around me, there seem to be a lot at Toss.
In the morning, Hansol told me about what happened during the 4 months at the DBS team. Also, after finishing the DBaaS Hands on assignment, I was trying to approach mdev development for the first time for Controller development, and I felt my shortcomings. It was because I lacked domain knowledge about MongoDB and didn't think I was outstanding at Operator-sdk development.
Even the brilliant Hansol said there was still a lot for them to learn.
Then, through Sunwoo's invitation, I joined the Bomb session at Toss Securities, and everyone had bright, eager eyes. What would it feel like to be at a growing company? I felt like I wanted to live this truly precious period of my life to the fullest.
I heard the story of Jimin Choi, who studied day and night for 3 months and switched from front-end to back-end. They said it was the first such case even within Toss. Since she was someone who had risen to the level of front-end leader, the weight on her shoulders must have been even heavier.
The three things she emphasized were:
- Become someone who can contribute right away (Build specs that match the JD)
- Study to at least 2 levels of depth (Consolidate into a single reference)
- Show that you're a fast learner (You can demonstrate this in the interview process and through your portfolio)
As someone with a family and children, she was truly admirable, and I think she could speak so confidently because she had traces of living intensely.
Of course, luck needs to be on your side too, but to seize that opportunity, you need to approach strategically and be able to show results. When interviewing, you need to give the feeling that this person is really good!
Starting today, I'm going to really commit to these 4 things. Let's dedicate my life to them.
- MongoDB study (I want to properly build the DBaaS product.) then Mastering MongoDB 6.x, Kubernetes Operator Framework book
- Data engineering study then Beginning Apache Spark, Kafka in action
- Lang chain, Streamlit then Streamlit for data science, Learning Langchain
- Japanese study then Memorize the words that Shinken gave me
Let's invest 2 hours each per day. Let's check if I actually know it. Let's be desperate about it. Reading and organizing from books seems like the best method.
Sunwoo is also truly an amazing and cool friend. Later, if a data engineer position opens up, I want to apply.
